Getting Started With The Quantum Network Monitor Assistant

Getting your first monitor running is easiest when you see it in action. Below is a guided, conversation-style walk-through showing how a new user sets up their first agent, authenticates, and adds a host using the Quantum Network Monitor Assistant. Step 1: Check your login status (so alerts and ownership work correctly) User: I just signed up—what now? Assistant: First, I’ll check whether you’re logged in. If you’re logged in, your email is attached to anything we add and you’ll get alerts automatically.

- You’ll get another host ID (e.g., id: 102). The monitor will begin with periodic pings and alert you if it’s down or latency spikes.
Tip: If you’re not logged in, include "email": "[email protected]" in the add_host call to receive alerts.
Step 4: Verify monitoring data is flowing Assistant: Let’s fetch the latest data for example.com to confirm everything’s live.

- Look for status (up/down), response time, TLS certificate details (issuer, days to expiry), and which agent ran the check. If it’s “up” with a normal response time and your cert is valid, you’re set.
- If you see repeated failures, you can switch agents or adjust timeouts.
User: Looks good—response times are stable. What if I want to run a full page load instead of just the HTTPS head check? Assistant: We can update the endpoint to httpfull to load the entire page (including JavaScript), which is useful when uptime depends on frontend resources.

Troubleshooting quick tips
- I don’t see my local devices: Install a local agent (Windows/macOS/Linux) from https://freenetworkmonitor.click/download, then re-run get_agents to confirm it’s online. Add hosts with agent_location set to your local agent.
- I’m not getting alerts: Confirm you’re logged in (get_user_info) and email_verified is true. If you’re operating without login, include your email when calling add_host.
- I added a host but no data yet: Fetch latest with get_host_data (dataset_id: 0). New checks may take a short interval to appear.
- I need to remove a host: Call edit_host with hidden: true.
